SMALL WORLD HAS GOT WHAT IT TAKES
London, 17th September 2015 – Los Angeles and London based formats company Small World IFT has secured a UK commission for Mom Made Me a Star, the musical reality talent format from Romania’s Media Factory, as digital channel CBBC orders a new ten-part local version.
Celebrating the extraordinary talents of eight teenage singers, and the dramatic reality of the mothers behind them, Mom Made Me a Star originally aired in primetime on Prima TV. This new commission will see the show air on CBBC in the UK under the title Got What it Takes? Currently in production by Rize USA for CBBC, the 10 x 30’ series will launch early next year.

Romania is a hot-bed of creativity and we’re seeing fantastic success on the international stage with formats originating there – for example, Media Factory’s Miss Country Girl, which has already been licensed to China, Thailand and Ukraine. Mom Made Me a Star is a one-of-a-kind singing contest, changing lives, but also questioning the very dream it offers as it teaches these talented teens – and their parents – the realities of life as a singing sensation.”
Speaking of the UK adaptation, Sheldon Lazarus, Creative Director of Rize USA today added, “Got What it Takes? promises to offer an intriguing new spin on the talent-contest genre, allowing an audience to see first-hand the pitfalls laid out for young people chasing stardom, questioning whether it is what they really want after all.”
Offering an intimate look at the parent-child relationship, Mom Made Me a Star follows the singers and their pushy parents as they learn about the realities of the music industry, whilst honing their musical skills with mentoring from a professional vocal coach. Weekly visits from music celebrities will teach the teens the reality of what their job involves, highlighting that it’s not all parties and fun but also exhausting and life changing.
In each episode, the singers and their mums are separated to undertake a variety of challenges, with three spots to perform at the end of the show up for grabs. Full of emotion and information, Mom Made Me a Star is a unique opportunity to discover whether, in the search for fame, family, talent or reality will prevail. The Got What it Takes? format will be sold internationally by Small World IFT.
