Content Television Secures Star-Studded BBC Thriller 'Line Of Duty' Ahead Of MIPTV
Content Television, a division of Content Media Corporation, has acquired international distribution rights to major new BBC drama Line of Duty, it was announced today, and will debut the highly anticipated primetime series to broadcasters at the upcoming MIPTV market.
Produced by World Productions for BBC Two and written by Jed Mercurio (Bodies), Line of Duty is a cat-and-mouse thriller taking a probing look into modern policing and police corruption. A multi-stranded investigation over five hour-long episodes, the drama is set in the fictional anti-corruption unit AC-12.
Led by zealous Superintendent Ted Hastings (Adrian Dunbar, Ashes to Ashes), who is joined by Detective Sergeant Steve Arnott (Martin Compston, Sweet Sixteen) and Detective Constable Kate Fleming (Vicky McClure, This Is England), AC-12 is assigned to an investigation into alleged corruption by Detective Chief Inspector Tony Gates (Lennie James, The Walking Dead). A popular and successful officer, the gifted and charismatic Gates leads a department that routinely returns the best crime figures on the force – but Hastings is convinced the results are too good to be true... Line of Duty also stars Neil Morrissey (Men Behaving Badly) and Gina McKee (Notting Hill).
Greg Phillips, President of Content Television commented, “Line of Duty provides a compelling insight into the harsh realities of modern-day policing, featuring performances from some of the acting world’s most exciting new talents. Jed Mercurio’s script and the first-class team at World Productions have created a thriller which will keep audiences gripped from beginning to end. We are expecting strong interest from our international licensees when this title makes its debut at MIPTV.”
Simon Heath, Creative Director of World Productions says: "It’s great to be working again with the team at Content, who did such a fantastic job for us on United. The brilliant Jed Mercurio has created not only a gripping and prescient stand alone thriller, but a format that can return each year with a new and unique investigation into police corruption."
Line of Duty is written and produced by Jed Mercurio, executive produced by World Productions’ Simon Heath (United) and Stephen Wright for the BBC. Episodes one to three are directed by David Caffrey and episodes four and five by Douglas Mackinnon.
