Trapped in a loveless marriage, Ingalill Lindquist finds solace in music and the letters she writes to her pen-pal Maisie in Nashville, with whom she secretly writes country songs. When her domineering husband dies, Ingalill manages to scrape together enough money to take a bus tour to Nashville, the home of her beloved country music and to Maisie, giving them a chance to finally meet. Along the way, Ingalill is transformed from a timid, sheltered housewife into a newly-confident woman, wins an amateur singing contest and meets the love of her life.
