Adapted from Lauren Brooke’s best-selling novels, this compelling family drama follows life on the Heartland ranch as sisters Amy and Lou, together with their grandfather Jack, deal with the challenges of running a ranch that has been in the family for generations. Set against the glorious backdrop and stunning vistas of the foothills of Alberta, Heartland is a ranch like no other – it is a horse ranch with a special mission to treat troubled or neglected horses and find them new homes. When his daughter Marion is killed in a car accident, Jack is left to run the ranch with his granddaughters, Amy and Lou - but the family is so deeply in debt that they might end up losing Heartland altogether... Tough and practical, Lou reluctantly gives up her city career to take over the business end of Heartland and must adjust to her new life in the country. Her rational approach creates constant friction with younger sister Amy, who, having inherited her mom’s gift as a horse whisperer, struggles to balance the social, romantic and emotional pressures of teenage life with her overwhelming desire to keep her mother’s dream alive. Jack soon learns that it’s not just about keeping wild horses under control – he’s got to keep his two granddaughters reined in as well. So it’s a good thing he has help. There’s neighbour and resident ‘little Miss Busybody’ Mallory; Ty, the farm’s ‘help’ and Amy’s love interest; Scott, the local veterinarian who has a way with the horses; stable hand, Caleb; and the girls’ estranged father Tim, who makes a concerted effort to re-connect with the daughters he left behind. As romances blossom, relationships are tested and hearts are broken, the Fleming family will find that their ups and downs may often divide them, but nothing will bring them closer than their intense passion to rescue their dream... a dream called Heartland. Heartland, a long-running, award-winning, multi-generational drama tells the story of a family getting through life together in both happy and trying times. With a realistic, edgy and humorous approach to its stories and the perfect balance of comedy and drama, adventure and romance, this sprawling family saga consistently generates strong audience figures and has become a successful global franchise.
