'Gene Roddenberry's Andromeda' chronicles the efforts of Captain Dylan Hunt and his crew members to restore a government that once presided over an extended peace and prosperity. Betrayed from within, the Commonwealth fell and plunged a civilization that spanned three galaxies into chaos. 300 years later, rescued from a black hole by a salvage ship called the Eureka Maru, Dylan realizes his entire world is in ruins. He recruits the eclectic crew of the Eureka Maru to his cause of reuniting the diverse cultures of the known worlds. Beka Valentine becomes first officer, hoping that Dylan will see the futility of his quest and she can redirect him to more lucrative pursuits. Tyr Anasazi joins the crew believing the mission is his hope for redemption. Rev Bem, a member of a feared alien race known for savageness, is ironically a peaceful soul - a scientist, linguist and priest. Next is engineer and fix-it man Seamus Harper, who communicates mostly through sarcasm and wisecracks. Trance Gemini believes she's superior to the crew but feels responsible for protecting them. The final crew member is the ship herself. Although her brain is a computer, she is as alive as the rest of them.
